The building was designed by the architectural firm of Charles E. Birge and completed in 1907. Located on one of the prettiest and most prominent Riverside blocks, it was home to William Randolph Hearst, who owned the entire building and occupied the 8th through 12th floors and a penthouse he built over the original roof.
